What are the standard rug sizes?
Before you start choosing the right rug size, it is helpful to have a general overview of standard rug sizes and where they are typically placed. Below, we have listed some of the most common sizes you can choose from. Keep in mind, however, that these may vary depending on the style of the rug you choose and the surrounding decor.
- 120 x 180 cm: 3 m² rugs are ideal for slightly smaller areas, perfectly complementing a room or a seating area.
- 160 x 230 cm: 4 m² rugs can be used in almost any room and are the ideal medium-sized rug for various spaces. This is the perfect rug size to place under a medium-sized dining table for 4 people.
- 200 x 300 cm: 6 m² rugs work wonderfully in a slightly larger living room or under a dining table for 6 people. Try placing it under a large sofa or a standard double bed; it will provide a complementary and stylish rug decor.
- 250 x 350 cm: 8 m² rugs are the go-to size for spacious rooms or for placing under a bed to create a grand look.
- 300 x 400 cm: 12 m² rugs are large-sized rugs that add a sense of richness to any space. They are ideal for spacious living rooms, bedrooms, or dining rooms.
Rug Sizes for the Bedroom
A plush or soft rug is the best way to create a warm and cozy atmosphere in the bedroom. Additionally, bedroom rugs prevent your precious feet from touching the cold floor, ensuring you start the day beautifully.
Bedroom with runner rugs With runner rugs, you can experience the pleasant feeling of sinking your toes into a cozy rug without covering the entire floor. Place an 80x150 cm runner on each side of your double bed, making sure they are long enough to cover the area where you are most likely to step when getting out of bed.
Bedroom with a large rug A spacious double bedroom may require a larger rug. Place the bed entirely on a large rug to create an equal border on all sides. Depending on the size of your bed, larger rugs with a width of at least 160 cm or more work best. Alternatively, choose a slightly smaller rug and place about three-quarters of the bed on it so that the sides and the foot of the bed are surrounded by the rug.
